With the Moto G3, a class Smartphone with good performance at a small price succeeds again Motorola. It can be far more than its predecessors, but not everything is better in the G3.
Motorola has landed with the first Moto G in 2013 a real price-performance hit. Good hardware, class processing, current software and an unbeatable price made the smartphone of choice for anyone looking for a good and at the same time affordable cell phone. Now the third Moto of G is there – it is more expensive, it can also clearly more than his predecessors.
That is the “G” in the name of not only cheap, but also for good, has not really changed with the G3. The signs are different, though still less than two years ago, as the Moto G had to fear little competition. There are now many good smartphones in the lower price range.Motorola responds by it equips the G3 with functions which are not obvious in the entry-level: it responds to gestures, has a clever system of notification and is waterproof-it can dive maximum for 30 minutes up to one meter deep. The back is interchangeable, in “Moto Maker”, the Smartphone can be colour assembled according to your own preferences.
Gestures And Rules
The software offers room for adjustment. Users can create rules for specific locations, times and activities, the smartphone uses for this including GPS data, and calendar entries. So, the display stays at night, calls are answered in meetings with automatic messages and remains on the work your phone in silent mode. The gesture control is also practical: the camera starts turning the wrist twice, with the same gesture you then alternates between front – and rear-view camera. With a short shake the flashlight is turned on, again shaking switches off again.
Shortly after the time or notifications to look, it is enough to take the device in your hand or briefly touch if it is on the table. The display switches automatically display (“active”). Motorola had introduced about two years ago with his then flagship Moto X all these clever features. It is gratifying that they are now in the middle class.
The cameras at the front and rear are significantly better than in the previous models. The main camera (maximum 13 megapixels) image quality is f r the price range well, shots succeed especially during daylight hours. In low light conditions, the sensor unit quickly to its limits. HDR images are processed almost instantly, the software offers a few, but well-thought-out options and is very intuitive to use with a short familiarization. The front camera is well-exposed and sharp photos with 5 megapixels.
Good And Cheap, But…
Smaller cuts need to be made as expected during the performance. The Moto G3 is not a smart phone for high performance games, also not the stronger 16-gigabyte model with 2 gigabytes of memory, which we have tested – the G3 with 8 gigabytes of memory can rely only on 1 gigabyte of RAM. Elaborate 3D images in the benchmark test AnTuTu masters the Smartphone only with strong jerking. In the Geekbench performance test it placed just above the nexus 4.
In practice the G3 but a good figure, makes fast responding to input, affords no pauses for reflection and dropouts in the test. The GPS location is fast, apps start without appreciable delay, the camera reacts smart. The good performance for inter alia by the sleek user interface. On the Moto G3 comes the current Android 5.1.1 used, supplemented by only a few own apps and features that are useful and not bloat the system. Motorola abandons optical adjustments.
The third Moto G is thus in the same score as his predecessors: it is good and cheap. The competition has caught up, but the overall package is sufficient for always still convincingly and for most claims: the Moto G3 is waterproof, has LTE and smart, slim, and current software with guaranteed fast Android updates. The display is sharp and bright enough, the cameras provide good pictures, the battery has enough juice for one and a half days. Only restriction: the 16 GB version is there until further notice only directly from Motorola at the fixed price of 279 euro. It no longer is an unbeatable price-performance blockbuster.
