Keyboard stand is not well designed. It is a pity, because otherwise impresses Huawei Matebook.
After Microsoft revealed that it actually is possible to combine a full PC with what can pass as Tablet has other taken after, both from the PC World and mobile world. Huawei is one of the latter, and their flat lies much closer to Tablet in design and format than its competitors.
It makes the Matebook into something of a feat in itself, It is significantly smaller and lighter than Apple Ipad Pro, although it is a full PC and not just a giant cell phone.
When this type of products began to appear a few years ago, the problem is usually that the Windows were too heavy to be able to be run on the hardware you could squeeze into such a small device. Not least because computer processors need fan system for cooling.
But it was then that. In our performance tests to handle Huawei Matebook as good as a mellansnabb new laptop (or a two-year-old top model), and in practical use we never notice the segar or takes time to open browser tabs. In addition, it is completely silent, then it is fanless.
Not having a computer fan that pants is a blessing, but it has its price.Huawei Matebook gets hot. Really hot. I have never had to complain about overheating, and personally, I would not disturb that Huawei Matebook is a real heating pad, but some would probably find that it becomes uncomfortably hot to keep in, for example, video playback.
Huawei Matebook is really nice, in my opinion better than the nearest competitor Samsung Galaxy Tabpro’s, and far more elegant than the neobrutala Microsoft Surface Pro 4, with soft surfplattelika forms. The volume button is a quick and accurate fingerprint sensor, a really nice position that allows me to lock up with your finger without even thinking about it.
Keyboard skins are included in the price, at least for now, and, of course, is necessary in order to get a real PC. It is made of fake leather that looks really convincing and attractive development, and covers both sides of the plate, eliminating the advantages of weight and thickness compared with a Microsoft Surface 4.
The keyboard is fully acceptable prints feel and a really good touch pad to control with, but the set function is almost fatal design error. It has two modes (to compare with stepless modes that many competitors). In one fold together back in a way that gives a fairly narrow angle between the screen and keyboard. In the other is attached to one of the flaps halfway up the plate with magnets for a better angle.
But the magnets are far too weak, and it is enough with an easy putt to get place to fold up, making this location unusable except possibly on a table, where the second mode will do good. Using Huawei Matebook as the laptop on your lap is not recommended. The shell feels directly been wrongly constructed, and it is really a shame on this plate that I otherwise like very much.
Tablet format means that there are few connections to the plate, or to be precise, there is only one USB type C-port, which is used for charging or accessory. Memory card slot is also missing, though at least 256 GB variant has plenty of storage space as it is.
The system is Windows 10 Home edition, and with keyboard skin I used Huawei Matebook as a full computer to work on, and apart from that the place had been completely satisfied with the results.
In addition to being a proper PC that can run Photoshop and other actual computer software has a Windows Tablet mode 10. This location is now okay, especially if you are going to consume content, such as surfing the Web or looking at SVT Play. This is getting really the format and weight on the plate with the keyboard disconnected to their advantage.
Are you going to produce content, it can be trickier. The on-screen keyboard is good, but it’s not all applications or apps that manage to adjust itself when it pops up, so you may need to move around it that it should not be in the way of what you write, which of course is not OK. It is also the si and so with select, copy and paste, all software seems to have their own ideas of how it should work, and in combination with some type of content does it not at all.
This can be understood pen sold as accessories be the salvation. It’s really well thought out, with three buttons and multiple functions. In addition to just write and draw on the screen, it is also a laser pointer. In addition, you can use it as a remote control for presentations by pairing the pen with your computer via Bluetooth. Then two of the forward and back buttons in Powerpoint. Really smart!
The pen is rechargeable (oddly enough with micro-usb, but an adapter cable included), and will last for one month with three hours of use per day.
Since it is this with what to make of the pen when you are not using it.It will not fit into a slot in the pad. Huawei’s solution is just as awkward as tripod feature. There is a small fuskläderflärp to wood over the pencil, which can then be secured with magnetic coupling on the outside of the case. It works to have somewhere to make the pen as you have plate folded up, but that’s all.
The screen is sharp and bright and have resolution 2160 x 1440 pixels. It’s not as much as on Surface 4, but well enough to video, and high resolution on a small screen set at least as often to the problems in Windows, in programs that are misaligned and deliver microscopic text.
Camera on the back of the plate is missing completely, the only thing you get is a front camera for video calls at 5 megapixels without autofocus. Frankly, I miss the camera, you don’t want to take your vacation pictures with a 12-inch and the mobile phone is never far away, but for example, if you want to scan text documents, it would have been nice to have a camera to it.
Then there was that thing with the battery life. Small size and high performance combined costs. Don’t believe Huawei’s specified 9 hours of surfing, count rather that it is not enough for more than three hours. Was also prepared that it loads quickly from the right even in sleep mode. In our video playback test passed it out anyway, so you should be able to see a feature film without the charger.
I really like the style and design of the Huawei Matebook. I can live with the battery life and it gets very hot. But I can not live with stand feature on the cover, unfortunately.
But put me on the interest list for a sequel with better cover!
On the other hand:
Erik M: there’s a lot to like with the Huawei Matebook, but I have about the same annoyance as Elias points out. I think material and design is of high quality. I also think that the computer can switch between computer and Tablet mode when you remove the keyboard works really well in both modes. But i agree that is rather poor and I think the pen adds limited function at the same time that I lack a place to store it and Matedock. There will be many small packets to carry around which is what man with a 2-in-1 might reasonably wish to avoid.
Questions & answers
There are more accessories?
Yes, there are Matedock, really a porthubb that you plug into the USB hub to get two USB ports, Ethernet, VGA and HDMI. And, gubevars, a pen holder. All in matching fake leather.
Can I adjust the height of the keyboard?
No, you can’t get it leaned as on some other 2 in 1 units.
The plate becomes hot?
If it becomes! Perfect for chilly fall days!
An alternative: Amoledskarm
Samsung Galaxy S Tabpro is in comparison a bit larger and bulkier, but has Amoledskarm that are perfect for video, and don’t turn down spontaneously.
