Windows Live Closes Blog Service; Mass Migration to WordPress

The Microsoft has consistently tried to create competitors for widely known services. Back in 2006, the company led by Steve Ballmer – Bill Gates was CEO at the time, it is worth remembering – announced its own service for publishing blogs. The Windows Live Spaces went on the air and may even have been successful, but do not know anyone who uses it.

Today the same Microsoft announced at the TechCrunch Disrupt event, which will discontinue Live Spaces. However, the move is interesting: instead of just letting your users in limbo bloguĂstico, MS will provide a migration tool, so that your users can move the Spaces blog to WordPress.com, you probably already know.

Today the WP.com hosts 26 million blogs. With the arrival of the Live Spaces users, about 30 million new blogs should be migrated, a number that Matt Mullenweg should certainly be celebrating right now.

The Live Spaces will be completed in six months. Who want, you can migrate your texts and images to the new platform. The MS will still offer the download of the entire blog archive if you do not take part in the biggest hosting blogs in the world.

Who can access the Live Spaces home page in an attempt to create a new blog, now is the message of the screenshot above. Microsoft recommends that you go to WordPress.com to create your web address. The link in question takes the surfer to the Portuguese version of the WP.com.
